EWG operates as a standalone corporation. Every EWG client will also receive Unity Shield (in development), a separate, information nonprofit organization (501(c)(3) status pending) that provides a chain-of-custody record-keeping service at no cost, as an in-kind and mandatory component of every EWG client relationship. Unity Shield is not a paid tier, a division of EWG, or an optional add-on — it is a distinct organization whose service is included for every client automatically.
When a Discord server owner ("Client") engages EWG, we collect information through an authorized Discord bot integration and through direct communication with the Client. This includes:
We collect only what the Client's Discord server owner has authorized through Discord's own permission and intent system, and we do not access private DMs, channels a Client has designated as excluded, or servers we have not been invited to and confirmed.
The Discord server owner (Client) determines the purposes and means of processing for their own community and remains responsible for their own server's rules, community guidelines, and applicable Discord Terms of Service. EWG acts as a service provider processing data on the Client's behalf to produce the agreed reporting deliverables. Unity Shield performs its chain-of-custody function independently as a separate organization, in-kind and free of charge to the Client.
Discord's own Terms of Service require that users be at least 13 years old (or the applicable minimum age in their jurisdiction) to maintain a Discord account. EWG does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13, and our services are not directed to children. Because Discord communities may nonetheless include participants who are minors, EWG applies the following practices in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws:

We retain information for as long as necessary to provide our services, to maintain accurate historical reporting and trend analysis for the Client, to satisfy the chain-of-custody function performed by Unity Shield, or as required by law. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Depending on your relationship to a Client community and your jurisdiction, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information. Requests relating to a specific Discord community should generally be directed to that community's server owner (our Client) in the first instance, as they control the underlying community. You may also contact EWG directly at support@ever-watchful.com, and we will work with the relevant Client to respond appropriately.
Because Discord communities are often global, information we process may relate to individuals located outside the United States. Where applicable law provides additional rights based on your location, we will honor those rights through the same contact process described above.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the Effective Date above. Continued use of our services after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
