EWG Community Translator is a Discord Server Bot that automatically detects and translates non-English messages in your server in real time. It is designed for communities of any kind — gaming servers, nonprofit organizations, corporations, youth groups, and public communities — where members speak different languages. The bot is powered by the World Understanding Project's proprietary Translation Matrix, which supports 200 +/- languages. Google Translate is used as a fallback only. The translation infrastructure is owned and operated entirely by Ever Watchful Guardian — it is not a resale of any third-party translation service Nor is it avaible for resale, rent, or lease..

Confirm the following before adding EWG Community Translator to your server.
The bot requires the following permissions in every channel where you want translation to work. These are requested automatically during the invite process, but you should confirm they are not blocked by channel overrides.

Note: If you restrict any of these permissions in a specific channel, the bot will not be able to translate in that channel. This is separate from using !tr_exclude — a permission block silently prevents the bot from working, while !tr_exclude is a deliberate configuration choice.
EWG Community Translator is not publicly listed in the Discord App Directory. Access is by invitation from Ever Watchful Guardian. When the subscription process is completed you will be automatically directed to a web page containg the Discord Bot link.
Step 1: Open the invite link you see on the webpage.
Step 2: Discord will open an authorization screen.
Step 3: Select your server from the dropdown labeled 'Add to Server.'
Step 4: Review the requested permissions and click Authorize.
Step 5: Complete any CAPTCHA if prompted.
The bot will appear in your server's member list and begin monitoring channels immediately. No additional setup is required to begin basic auto-translation.
Note: The bot joins with translation enabled by default. You do not need to run any commands for it to start working
After the bot joins, confirm it is working:
!tr_status in any channel — the bot will reply with its current configuration

Most servers need little or no configuration. The bot works out of the box with sensible defaults. The following settings are available if your server has specific needs.
Translation is enabled by default. You can turn it off server-wide at any time and re-enable it without losing any settings.
!tr_on — Enable auto-translation (default)!tr_off — Disable auto-translation server-wide
Note: When translation is disabled, the bot remains in your server and all slash
commands (/translate, /detect, /help) continue to work. Only the automatic passive
translation stops.
Some channels are not appropriate for translation — announcement channels, rules channels, bot command channels, or channels where you want to maintain a single language. Use !tr_exclude to stop the bot from translating in those channels.
!tr_exclude #channel — Stop translating in a specific channel!tr_include #channel — Re-enable translation in an excluded channel
Example — exclude your rules and announcements channels: !tr_exclude #rules!tr_exclude #announcements
Note: If you run !tr_exclude without specifying a channel, it excludes the channel you are currently in.
If your server has a channel dedicated to a specific language community — for example, a Spanish-speaking channel or a French-speaking channel — you can declare a majority language for that channel. The bot will then translate non-English messages into English AND into that majority language, so both communities can read every message.!tr_setchan #channel

To remove a majority language setting and return the channel to English-only translation:!tr_clearchan #channel
To force a channel to English output only, ignoring any majority language setting: !tr_englishonly #channel
Note: See Section 7 for a table of common language codes. 200 languages are supported in total.
EWG Community Translator includes a built-in profanity filter that applies to all translated output. When active, profanity detected in a translation is replaced with the word 'smurf.' Capitalization is preserved — SMURF, Smurf, or smurf depending on the original word's casing.
The filter is ON by default for all servers. It applies only to translated text — it never alters original messages posted by your members.
Translation engines sometimes produce output that contains profanity even when the original message did not — this can occur due to colloquialisms, cultural expressions, or model behavior. The smurf filter protects your members, including minors, from unexpected profane output in translations
Any server admin with Manage Server permission can re-enable the filter after it has been turned off:!tr_smurf on
Only the server owner can disable the smurf filter. This restriction exists because disabling the filter means your members may see profanity in translated messages. This action is logged by Ever Watchful Guardian with your Discord user ID, server ID, and timestamp.!tr_smurf off
Important: By running !tr_smurf off, your server accepts full legal responsibility for unfiltered translation output under the EWG Translator Terms of Service. This action is permanently recorded. It cannot be undone — only re-enabled.
Note: Certain server categories — such as youth organizations and servers designated for minors — have the smurf filter permanently enabled and cannot disable it. Contact Support@ever-watchful.com if you believe your server should be in this category.
The following features are available to all members of your server. No special permissions are required.
Every non-English message posted in a channel where translation is active will receive an automatic English translation reply from the bot. Members do not need to do anything — this is passive and automatic.
Members can manually translate any text to any language at any time.!tr — Prefix Command (type directly in chat)!tr [language code] [your text]

Any member can check the current translation settings for your server:!tr_status
This shows whether translation is enabled, the activity window, channel majority languages.
Use these codes with !setlang !tr !tr_setchan and /translate X# languages are supported in total through the WUP translation matrix spine.
Once configured, EWG Community Translator requires minimal ongoing management. The following tasks cover the most common day-to-day needs.
Any member with Manage Server permission can use admin commands. To allow a moderator to configure translation settings, grant them Manage Server in your server's role settings. They will then be able to use all admin-level commands except disabling the smurf filter, which is reserved for the server owner.
When you create a new channel for a specific language community, set its majority language immediately: !tr_setchan #new-channel 2 letter language code
Example: !tr_setchan #international FR
If you need to pause translation during a server event or maintenance: !tr_off — Pause all auto-translation !tr_on — Resume auto-translation
Run !tr_status at any time to see a full summary of your server's current translation settings, including all channel majority languages and whether translation is currently enabled.
To remove EWG Community Translator from your server, go to your server's settings, select Integrations, find the bot, and click Remove. Your server's configuration is retained by Ever Watchful Guardian for 90 days in case you re-add the bot. After 90 days it is permanently deleted.
