EWG Universal Translator (“Bot”, “Service”) is a family of Discord applications that provide real-time message translation using a self-hosted, proprietary translation matrix built on Meta’s open-source NLLB-200 model, with Google Translate and LibreTranslate used only as fallback engines when the primary matrix is unavailable.

The Bot includes a profanity filter (“smurf filter”) enabled by default on all translated output. Server administrators with the Manage Server permission may disable this filter using !tr_smurf off . By disabling the filter, the server’s administrators acknowledge that profanity may appear in translated messages and accept full responsibility for translated content displayed in that server as a result. This action is logged with a timestamp and the acting administrator’s Discord user ID for compliance purposes, per the Privacy Policy Section 1.3. Certain servers may be designated by the operator as unable to disable this filter regardless of admin permissions.
Translations may appear via Discord webhooks styled to match the original sender to
preserve conversational readability, or as bot replies, depending on the bot and
configuration. EWG-translator does not impersonate users for any purpose other than
inline translation display. If you set a language with /setlang, you may receive DM translations. Use /dmoff to opt out at any time.
Server admins on eligible tiers may configure channel-level majority-language settings and exclusions via admin commands. The Bot does not create channels or threads. The licensed entity is responsible for all channel and role management related to Bot configuration.
